[Taiwan] Barbie Hsu’s dad confirms she is getting married

Not to scare anyone, the above is just a composite photo – Rumors suggest that Barbie Hsu (Da S) is engaged to the executive director of a mainland restaurant group with an estimated net worth of 11.5 billion NTD (~375 million USD). The two apparently have met for only 20 days and were said to have already held their engagement party on the 22nd

The man in question is 29 year-old Wang Xiao Fei (汪小菲). He is the son of Zhang Lan who is the chairman of the famous South Beauty (Restaurant) Group in mainland China. Wang has previously studied in France and completed his MBA at the University of Guelph in Canada. He returned to Beijing afterwards and is currently responsible for promotional and design-related work at the company. Similar to Da S’s ex Vic Chou, Wang also happens to be 5 years her junior.

Interestingly, Da S was photographed holding hands with former Comic Boyz Shone An as they left Ady An’s birthday party. More speculations arose when director Stanley Tong recently commented that she was too busy being in love to work on his new drama. As for Wang, he previously dated Zhang Yu Qi (張雨綺) and has also been linked to Zhang Ziyi. Many had thought he and Zhang Yu Qi were still an item when the news broke, but they both later wrote on their blogs that they have in fact parted ways for awhile.

Da S’s mom usually responds on matters concerning her daughters. However, her cell phone has since been turned off, while Dee Hsu gave a rather ambiguous answer, “I won’t answer on her behalf. My sister’s happiness is the what that I care the most in my life time. As long as she is happy, I will be happy for her.” Adding fuel to the rumors, Dee Hsu and her husband were recently spotted in Beijing which would coincide with the possible engagement party.

Although there are signs that this might be the real deal, some speculate it might be just an attempt to create curiosity for South Beauty’s upcoming expansion to Taipei. In addition to that, Wang’s mother was in Shanghai just a few days ago. They believe it would be unlikely for the couple to get engaged without her presence. While Da S has yet to officially respond on the rumors, she did have this to say, “Other than my arm injury over the past 20 days, everything else has been very well. (I) will be back in Taiwan in a few more days. When it’s the time to make an announcement then I will make one.”

So…..what could she possibly be announcing? Engagement? Wedding date? Pregnancy? Or joining the restaurant business with her own chain of vegetarian restaurants?

Well, well, well, Appledaily reported today that Barbie Hsu’s dad confirmed she is getting married. He found out from Da S’s older sister a few days ago and said the couple plans to hold wedding banquets in both the mainland and Taiwan. Da S and her mom were also spotted at the South Beauty restaurant in Shanghai yesterday. It was presumed that the future in-laws were discussing their wedding plans. The group left with smiles on their faces and when asked about Da S, Wang’s mom Zhang Lan said “very good.”

Celebrity friends of the actress are flooding the Internet with their well wishes. However, writer/commentator/TV personality Li Ao does have a word of advice for her: Sign a prenup!!

[Taiwan] Selina’s slow road to recovery continues, can now bend knees 90 degrees

Shucks. The incident even affected her psychologically. Jiayou, Selina! >_<

Written by: Pauli @ CpopAccess.com

After the well-publicized tragic accident that hospitalized S.H.E’s Selina Ren in critical condition, the popular celebrity has made strides in her motor skills as she is able to bend her knees at ninety degrees after being victim to severe burns throughout her body. Despite her progress yesterday, the beloved singer still has recurring nightmares, so the singer had her engagement photos with her fiancé at her bedside in order to ease her mind.

On the 4th of this month, Selina used her own willpower to bend her knees at right angles, and because she suffered injuries on all four of her limbs, she is experiencing severe pain when she moves. It was revealed on Selina’s father’s micro-blog account that Selina was worried that her father was losing weight because of her, therefore he jokingly said, “Don’t worry, your father’s healthy and can marry once again.” After that, Selina was too weak to glance at her father, and so her father responded, “Little Ren, don’t do it.”

Selina’s father posted on his microblog that Selina has endured the pain to stand up. He later added that seeing his daughter suffer such hardships is like “a huge chunk of his body being cut out from him”. Selina immediately protested in response and said it was just a “little” chunk.

[Taiwan] Rainie Yang Bagged the Golden Bell!

One of my favorite artists in the Chinese entertainment just won the Best Actress Award at the 45th Golden Bell Awards in Taiwan. And it’s none other than Rainie Yang! Congratulations, Rainie Yang Chen Lin!

This is the second time that an actress won by starring in an idol drama. The first one was won by Ariel Lin two years ago for her role in “It Started with a Kiss.” And this year, Rainie won for her role in “Hi My Sweetheart.”

At least she won, so this year’s Golden Bell wasn’t that bad for me. 🙂

[C-Drama] Autumn’s Concerto (Next Stop, Happiness)

autums_concerto2.jpg picture by laraceres

Now that sembreak has finally started, I managed to finish watching Autumn’s Concerto! Here’s what I have to say about that drama.

First of all, I want to say that I loved it. No wonder that it is the second highest rated drama in Taiwan. One of the things that I like about it is that it is not a comical series – a factor that I have always been seeing in the past Taiwanese idol dramas that I’ve watched in the past. An example would be Rainie Yang’s dramas “Devil Beside You” and “Hi, My Sweetheart.”

So, what is Autumn’s Concerto (alternative title: Next Stop, Happiness) all about? Here’s a brief info on the series from Drama Wiki:

  • Title: 下一站,幸福 / Xia Yi Zhan, Xing Fu
  • Also known as: Autumn’s Concerto / Next Stop, Happiness

Now, let’s talk about the drama starting off with the cast.

The drama had a stellar and beautiful cast of famous actors in the Taiwanese entertainment. Of course, we have the beautiful Ady An, and the equally beautiful Tiffany Xu from the drama “It Started With a Kiss.” There’s also Chris Wu and Vanness Wu of the F4 and Meteor Garden fame. There’s also the star child actor Xiao Xiao Bin who’s also in the drama “Down With Love” alongside Jerry Yan of F4 and Ella Chen of S.H.E.  The support cast also had famous actors such as Zheng You Jue and Liu Rui Qi.

Their actors are really GREAT actors. Since this is more on the drama side, Ady An’s acting is really good. She can cry so effortlessly, and can really move the audience. She makes it so natural.   Vanness Wu, on the other hand, was the one who I was really impressedwith. His acting is just like what my friend said, “He doesn’t act. Instead, he BECOMES the character.” Exactly. His facial expressions, the way he portrays Ren Guang Xi is effortless and natural. You’re not seeing Vanness acting. You are seeing the true Ren Guang Xi. Xiao Xiao Bin, despite being a child, is also a natural. 🙂

I’m really contented with the cast. Tiffany Xu is also an excellent choice as the second fiddle of Guang Xi here. I love her! She’s so beautiful! 🙂

Another thing is Vaness and Ady’s CHEMISTRY. They made the whole romance series effective because of their really good chemistry. Even just by looking at a single promo photo of the series, you can already feel their good chemistry. Add Xiao Xiao Bin to that, and you’ll get the perfect family!

Autumns-Concerto-Family.jpg picture by laraceres

With the plot…

It’s your typical bad, rich guy meets poor, nice girl with a twist. 😀

Okay, so Ren Guang Xi (Vanness Wu) is the son of the owner of Sheng De Tang University. His father committed suicide when he was young, and blames his mother for that. In episode 2o, Guang Xi will be enlightened about the truth of the death of his father. It’s a tear-jerking scene with his mother, so watch out for that. (OKAY, I ADMIT. I’M A BIT OF A SPOILER!) 😀

His father was a music professor at Sheng De Tang and used to play for him the music piece “Air on the G String” by Bach.

Liang Mu Cheng (Ady An), on the other hand, has a riches-to-rags story. Her father and stepmother sent her to a music school when she was young. She’s really good at playing the piano, and she promised to her Dad that she will play the “Air on the G String” for him sometime. However, her father died from being run over by a car. So her stepmother and her gave up their belongings, because the company of Mu Cheng’s father had gone bankcrupt.

Mu Cheng’s stepmother, then, marries Jin Cai. Jin Cai owns this small-time restaurant, and ends up serving at Sheng De Tang University. He has a secret interest on Mu Cheng, which is why Mu Cheng is afraid of her stepfather.

Ren Guang Xi meets Mu Cheng when he parks his car at the center of the road with his girlfriend Zhang Ai Li. He causes a commotion by blocking the way of the bus that Mu Cheng is riding on. She confronts Guang Xi and a series of unfortunate events follow.

The following day, they meet again at the school canteen. Mu Cheng is helping out her stepmother and stepfather at the canteen/school restaurant, and Guang Xi introduces himself as the love saint of the university and the president’s son.

From then on, their romance begins.

However, they learn that Guang Xi has a brain tumor that needed to be removed by surgery. The hospital and set of doctors that has the most advanced technology that can help Guang Xi with surgery was owned by He Zhen Tang. In exchange for helping Guang Xi with his surgery, Zhen Tang asked Guang Xi’s mother Fang De Rong to have his daughter Yi Qian be Guang Xi’s girlfriend.

Fang De Rong, in order to save his son’s life, asks Mu Cheng to leave Guang Xi so he can have his treatment. Fang De Rong liked the idea, because she thought that Mu Cheng, in the first place, is not good enough for her son.

So, Mu Cheng leaves Guang Xi and stays at Hua Tian Village, not knowing that she is pregnant with his son. Hua Tian Village is a flower village and is the hometown of Mu Cheng’s friend, Hua Tuo Ye. Hua Tuo Ye, on the other hand, doesn’t just consider Mu Cheng as a friend.

Mu Cheng then gives birth to Xiao Le, while Guang Xi wakes up after the surgery without any memories of the past. Guang Xi wakes up finding Yi Qian by his side and falls in love with her.

14_1.jpg picture by laraceres

Six years later, Guang Xi becomes a successsful lawyer. After hitting his client court, he is to to do 240 hours of community service at Hua Tian Village.

Since Mu Cheng and Xiao Le are living in a house owned by the Village Chie of Hua Tian Village, Guang Xi will stay there until his community service hours are done. This reunites him with Mu Cheng.

Guang Xi then becomes close to Xiao Le and Mu Cheng. Xiao Le ends up calling him his Daddy, much to Mu Cheng’s disappointment.

After a series of dramatic and comic episodes of Guang Xi in Hua Tian Village, he returns to Taipei.

The day before Guang Xi and Yi Qian’s wedding, Guang Xi finally remembers his past and decides to have a revenge on Mu Cheng who left him six years ago. And this will only help them rekindle their past love.

This family drama made me cry and laugh at the same time. It was so touching and moving.

One of my favorite episodes episode 18 (the one with the highest rating). It’s the episode where Guang Xi’s mom finally showed her affection for Xiao Le. And also the episode where Mu Cheng finally expressed her sad feelings for Guang Xi. ❤

I’ve always believed in fate, and I’ve always loved stories wherein two people find each other again after being apart for so many years. And that’s exactly what happened to Mu Cheng and Guang Xi. They were given a second chance to rekindle their past and to reconcile.

There were times when I cried along with Mu Cheng on the episode where Guang Xi took care of her after an attempt sexual harassment from her stepfather. Her acting was so convincing, and her tears were moving that I just had to cry with her. It went as well for Guang Xi’s pain when he finally remembered his past. How sad he must have felt to know that the past six years of his life after his surgery had been fabricated by his mother and Yi Qian.

What’s also touching here was Guang Xi’s attachment to Xiao Le during the times when Guang Xi still had an amnesia. The episodes where Guang Xi helped and played with Xiao Le were very touching and heartwarming.

If you’re in to the romance and drama genre, you should definitely must not miss this!

Aside from the beautiful cast and plot of the series, the SOUNDTRACKS are not to be missed! 😀 The songs “Relative” and “I Love Him” by Della Ding Dang can bring you to tears even after watching the whole series 🙂

[C-Pop/C-Drama] Back to Chinese Entertainment! Autumn’s Concerto + Fahrenheit + Della Ding!

Song playing: Relative (Qing Ren) – Della Ding Dang >>> On Loop 🙂

Finally after months of not updating myself with Chinese entertainment, I’m back to fangirling it! 🙂

Why?

First, it’s because Fahrenheit is back in the music scene! After starring in various Taiwanese dramas, the handsome idols have joined together to release their fourth studio album entitled “Super Hot.”

Since I have been busy updating myself with Japanese and Korean entertainment during school days, I’ve neglected Chinese entertainment. I only learned of Fahrenheit’s comeback from my friend. And oh are we happy for that ❤

Here's the MV of the title track "Super Hot."

HOT, isn’t it? I was really surprised with their sudden transformation from bubblegum pop boys to hot men, especially Aaron Yan Ya Lun’s image! For a second I didn’t notice him.

This single was then followed by two more music videos. Here’s the latest, it’s entitled “Sexy Girl.” The male lead in this video is my favorite Fahrehnheit member, Calvin Chen Yi Ru. 🙂

Can’t get enough of Fahrenheit! At first I thought that “Super Hot” is just a single. But nooooooooo! Like I said, it’s also the title of their full-length album!!!

Here are the details for their album, courtesy of http://www.yesasia.com:

Bringing a climactic end to the summer, Fahrenheit unleash their strongest heat wave with the Super Hot new album! It’s been almost two years since the release of Love You More & More, and this time the top idol group from Taiwan trade their charming boyish looks for a sexy, manly image. Flaunting their masculine appeal, the Super Hot guys are going to repay the faith of the fans with their feverishly anticipated fourth album. The track list includes the electronic-dance single “Super Hot” and “Quite Quiet”, the end theme to Jiro and Calvin’s hit idol drama MoMo Love.

Tracklist:
01. 太熱 Super hot
02. Sexy Girl
03. 心疼妳的心疼 Cherish your heartache

Can’t wait to get my own copy! 🙂

Aside from the music, I also missed their series. So I brought out a DVD of mine that I have kept for months now, since buying it without watching. The DVD is entitled “Autumn’s Concerto.”

So, what is Autumn’s Concerto? It’s currently Taiwan’s second highest rated drama ever. And the very series that has been keeping me up all night. It’s THAT engaging, I’m telling you. The plot, soundtracks, cast are all STELLAR.

I’m planning on creating a separate post on Autumn’s Concerto once I’ve finished watching it, since I’m still on episode 17 out of 21. But here’s a brief info on that addictive drama, from DramaWiki:

Ren Guang Xi, a cocky law student, seems to lead the perfect life. He’s the sole successor to a huge and famous business and a talented ice hockey player. But in reality, his lonely life lacks joy, laughter and motivation. That is until he meets Liang Mu Cheng, the new bento seller at his school canteen. Although orphaned at a young age, Mu Cheng does not let her past affect her and lives life with great passion and determination. A harmless bet brings the two together and Guang Xi slowly changes as Mu Cheng teaches him how to give and love. Tragedy strikes when Guang Xi suddenly has to go through a major brain surgery which causes him to lose his memory. His mother begs Mu Cheng to leave him and the latter has no choice but to do so. Little does she know that she already has Guang Xi’s child.

Six years pass. Mu Cheng lives a quiet life with her young son in the countryside while Guang Xi is now a successful lawyer and is engaged to He Yi Qian, the kind and beautiful doctor who took care of him after his surgery. A strangely familiar piano piece stirs Guang Xi’s heart as he struggles to recall his past romance with Mu Cheng. How will the couple make up for six years of lost time? Happiness, which stop do I alight at?

Ady An as Liang Mu Cheng 梁慕橙
Van Ness Wu as Ren Guang Xi 任光晞
Chris Wu as Hua Tuo Ye 花拓也
Tiffany Xu as He Yi Qian 何以茜

Yeah, the drama stars popular F4 member Vanness Wu! Got more reasons to watch it now? 🙂

What I loved about the drama, besides its cast and its plot, is its SOUNDTRACKS! I’m actually planning in ordering its CD Soundtrack on YesAsia, since it comes with a 52-paged storybook of the series.

Here are the details from http://www.yesasia.com/global/autumns-concerto-tv-original-soundtrack-ost-cd-dvd/1022077510-0-0-0-en/info.html:

Most of the songs here were sung by beautiful balladeer Della Ding (also known as Ding Dang). Blessed with good looks, the singer also has a beautiful voice, which makes you fall in love with the songs even more.

My personal favorites from the soundtrack are her songs “Wo Ai Ta (I Love Him)” and “Qing Ren (Relative).” The former was used as the opening song, while the latter was the image/insert song. Once you hear the intro of these songs, you can’t help but feel a weird longing sensation somewhere in your heart.

I actually owe it to Autumn’s Concerto for letting me know the existence of Della Ding. It’s been a long time since I last listened to a different Chinese singer, since I’m always listening to Fahrenheit, S.H.E, Rainie Yang, Jolin Tsai, etc. Della Ding is a good find. She’s a really good singer!

I’m also going to write a separate post about her and Autumn’s Concerto’s song when I get my copy of the soundtrack.

But for now, check out the MV of “Wo Ai Ta (I Love Him)”:

Oh, how I missed Chinese entertainment! 🙂
