My entry for Anime HQ’s Ongaku Friday last May 3, 2013.

Up for Ongaku Friday is Japanese rock royalty, Gackt!

Gackt is a J-Rock icon who first debuted in 1995 as the frontman for Visuel Kei band “Malice Mizer,” and later on debuted as a solo artist in 1999. He currently holds the record for Most Top 10 singles by a Male Artist in J-Music history and also the first Japanese artist to release his music in iTunes in 2007.

He is also an actor, known forΒ his films “Moon Child” and “Bunraku,” also in the NHK Taiga drama, “Fuurin Kazan.” He is also the basis for the video game character “Genesis Rhapsodos” in Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus and Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core.

Gackt has also contributed theme songs in anime and video games such as “Metamophoze” for the Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam movie and “Redemption” for Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus.
